My Trip to Jammu Kashhmir

The year before last, I got to go on a trip to Jammu Kashmir with my family. Needless to say I loved the place. We went in the summer season, so the days were cool and the nights were cold. We went to a pre-booked hotel and ate dinner outside, on the lawn. We went to Gulmarg, a hill station whose name means 'meadow of flowers'  were we had fun with a handful of snow we scraped off the rocks.

Yes, all these pics are mine.

Then we went to Pahalgam which is a valley in Jammu. What I liked best in Pahalgam was the river running along the road. It is really fast and cold and we cannot get in it since it is full of uneven slippery rocks.

The fast-flowing river.

There  we saw the sunlight through the clouds

We had chapattis that were quite different from the ones we make here at home. Another common food item there is the paratha which are served with yogurt or curd. They were really spicy. The fried rice that we tried at various restaurants were not awesome.

We also saw  the Dal lake and stayed at a beautiful house boat that smelled of eucalyptus.

The houseboat was so beautiful. The wooden panels were carved into shapes of flowers. And the rooms were lit beautifully at night. I enjoyed my stay there. I felt like a mysterious princess. Sort of. If like, you are left alone in the world, literally, then this is the place to stay.
